Liverpool Life Drawing at Leaf by Marc Aspinall

Life Drawing Liverpool 15th January

January 17, 2017

Finally back to life drawing. Been so long, two months at least. Luckily I'm busy in work so am constantly drawing so no real perceived 'rust'. Heavy work schedule means I'm letting go of being too tight with these drawing; mainly finding angled with an extended arm, but no precise measuring - brain wasn't into it, haha!

Rob is always a pleasure, and has one of those faces that is pretty easy to capture - nothing worse than burrowing a hole into my sketch pad looking for a likeness that isn't forthcoming!

Life Drawing Liverpool 6th November

November 7, 2016

Leaf on Bold street was last night's venue. New model, who I didn't quite get the name of; but wow, she was fantastic. There was a delicate, effortlessness in her posing, and her face had me thinking of a classic 19th century look. Not many drawings; somehow didn't get into it so much; despite the good posing. Top left is hands down my favourite; which ironically I drew without my glasses.. Maybe something to look at repeating. Bottom two pieces were such a challenge, I was quite far away; probably a good fifteen feet - no idea why I decided to focus on her face from so far away. Bottom right is a tracing of the image on the left; correcting what I had trouble with.

I welcome the opportunity to draw her again. Fingers crossed.

Life Drawing Liverpool 7th August

August 8, 2016

Attendance hasn't been great. I have to admit. Busy working weekends have gotten in the way, and when session are every other week, makes it hard to get a proper groove on. Last night's session was an odd one. A mix of emotions had me drawing with mixed results. The top few I was feeling pretty angry and haphazardly threw lines on without consideration. Or at least in a more brutal fashion.. If that's possible to say. A few one minute gestures mid-way down the page and then two completely different watercolours, both of the same 30 minute pose. Mixed bag.

Life Drawing Liverpool - 10th July

July 11, 2016

I was an hour late. Nearly didn't even go to the class; glad I did, as always. Embarrassingly I can't recall the model's name, but she's great to draw; expressive forms and a face that's nice to capture. Holds a pose very well too!

Mixed bag of drawings; some felt tip; some 2b pencil, then the bottom two are a graphic stick; which I was hoping to mimic a charcoal stick, alas; I didn't get the result I desired. Charcoal next time, who cares about filthy fingers?!

Life Drawing Liverpool - 19th June

June 20, 2016

Back to wearing my life drawing hat, finally! Also back to one of my favourite venues - The Well Space.

I was very late to arrive, class was well underway when I finally sat down; had to race to get limbered up. Not many pieces overall. We did some transitional poses, which are fantastic practice, but not legible enough for putting up here. An interesting way to see learning through repetition over a very short timeframe. Drawing the same pose three times over and you really take on board the shapes and angles - even if the page looks like a dog's dinner!

Another stab at the watercolour; I think not even ten minutes of painting, very rushed. Might go back into it and finish off. Very much enjoying the rush of painting and moving colour over a page, completely different mindset, which is most welcomed.

Top marks to the new model, Neil; on a par with Rob, who I've considered to be the best at holding a pose. Maybe down to the yoga he does. More of Neil, I hope!
